PLAI National Congress 2023 to be held in Clark, Pampanga

In the PLAI National Congress General Assembly 2022 held in Iloilo Convention Center last November 25, 2022, it was announced that the next Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) National Congress on 2023 will be held in Clark, Pampanga . The National Congress was supposed to be held in Clark last 2019, however it was moved to Tagaytay because of the SEA Games in Pampanga that year.  The tentative schedule of the PLAI National Congress 2023 will be on November 21-24, 2023. The National Congress was held online in 2020 and 2021. This 2022, the Congress was held in Iloilo City with the easing of pandemic-related restrictions. Sen. Gatchalian proposes Philippine Online Library Act

Philippine Senator Sherwin Gatchalian recently proposed Senate Bill No. 477 or the Philippine Online Library Act. This bill proposes the creation of a Philippine Online Library that houses free educational materials that Filipino students and teachers can access online. In the proposed bill, the Department of Education will be tasked to create digital copies of textbooks and reference materials; to be compiled in an online library to be managed by DepEd and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). This bill "aims to establish the Philippine Online Library which will emerge as a vital pathway to high-quality e-books and educational content as it will be the repositoiy of the digitized copy of all textbooks and reference materials necessary for the public education of our elementary and secondary learners. The Philippine Normal University Library and Information Science Alumni Association. Inc. (PNULISAA) will be conducting the 2nd PNULISAA Unconference for Library Professionals or PULP 2022 in celebration of the 32nd Library and Information Services Month this November 2022. 88th National Book Week on November 24-30, 2022: theme and activities

November 24-30 of each year was declared as the National Book Week in the Philippines by virtue of Proclamation No. 109, series of 1936, signed by former President Manuel L. Quezon. Read:  Proclamation No. 109, s. 1936: National Book Week Law This year's National Book Week is led by the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. (PLAI), National Library of the Philippines (NLP), and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts - National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCCA-NCLIS). The theme of this year's celebration is Basa. Bayan. Bukas. ("Read.Nation.Tomorrow" in English) The chosen theme shows the value of books and reading for the good of the people and the future. Through reading, especially local publications, we can better recognize our identity as a Filipinos; and think about how we can shape ourselves for the future of the country.
