First online presidential library on Fidel V. Ramos to launch in late 2022

An online Presidential library dedicated to former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos is set to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022. This would be the first digital Presidential library in the country. This was announced last March 18 in time for his 94th birthday. It was launched online and the stream is available on the FVR Legacy Facebook page . Fidel V. Ramos served as the President of the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. Formerly a chief of staff for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), his term was known for economic progress for the country. For updates on this project, follow the FVR Legacy on Facebook. I show the scanners and equipment I am using for digitization, processes such as optical character recognition (OCR). I use both an overhead scanner and a flatbed scanner. DepEd launches E-saliksik, online education research portal

The Department of Education (DepEd) launched E-saliksik, an online repository for resources on research education. According to DepEd, "E-Saliksik shall serve as the official repository of education research in the Department and make education research more accessible to aid evidence-based actions. The research portal also seeks to encourage the conduct and use of research from school to the national level through the sharing of knowledge." E-saliksik was officially launched last March 14, 2022 in an online event. The research repository was made possible with DepEd's Planning Service-Policy Research and Development Division (PS-PRDD) in partnership with the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS).  As of now, only verified members can access the repository. Video: Almost scammed! Security Bank online banking scam call & fake rewards

This is unrelated to librarianship but just a reminder and warning to be very vigilant about your bank account and personal details. There are so many scammers and fishy people nowadays who just want easy money. Stay safe. Someone who claimed to be from Security Bank (Philippines) said that there would be 'rewards' to be deposited in my account worth 5,000 pesos. The caller sounded so professional that I almost took the bait. Then, I received an OTP from Security Bank when I wasn't touching my online banking at all (account is not connected to online banking). The text message said that someone is trying to create an online banking account and log in. When the caller asked for the OTP, I realized it was a scam. She said she needed the OTP so that she can deposit the money. I ended the call, called Customer Service and reported the number and incident. I also went to the bank branch the next day to update my passbook and make sure there were no suspicious transactions. T...

The Association of Special Libraries in the Philippines (ASLP) will be hosting a webinar with CPD points for librarians. The topic will be on the theme, "Beyond fact-checking: Libraries keeping up with misinformation." It will be held online on March 25, 2022 (Friday), 2-5 PM via Zoom. The webinar was given 2.0 credit units by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Council for Librarians.  Registration is free for ASLP members. Sun Life bolsters initiatives to fight Diabetes

As the Filipino’s partner in health, Sun Life Philippines (Sun Life) is ramping up its fight against diabetes with the launch of initiatives that promote diabetes awareness and prevention through a healthier lifestyle. The efforts kick off with the launch of the Sun Life Diabetes Corner. These will be integrated in the recently established Sun Life Barangay Health Stations (SLBHS), an initiative of the Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation), and will be piloted in Barangay Pansol, Taal, Batangas. The Diabetes Corner will integrate a diabetes program in the SLBHS to promote awareness and prevention. Basic medical services such as blood sugar screening will be provided for pre-diabetic patients, while informative dissemination will be done through fliers and educational videos.
