5 Ways to be a Better Librarian this year

Image
"New year, new me!" is often the mantra once another new year starts. People resolve to make resolutions to better themselves (usually related to weight loss). A new year is a great opportunity to assess yourself, where you have been the past year and what you can do to make the most of the next. Optimism abounds when a year begins. Aside from personal resolutions, we can also try to be better professionals and librarians. Here are my own new year's resolutions as a librarian. 1. Be Proactive. The common librarian stereotype for those who are not familiar with library work is the strict librarian who "does nothing" in the library. Because of this, I think librarians should go the extra mile in providing services to debunk the damaging image. Sometimes stereotypes can be difficult to change, and their wrong notion about libraries may deter them from getting to know the library. We should also go to them, and not wait for them to go to us. 2. Always be lea...

2022: a year in review

Image
These are the brands I've worked with this past year. Every year, I would write about the past year and what I hope the next will bring (Read: my 2021 year in review ). It is good to review what I hoped to do this 2022 and see if I have accomplished something or what I intended to do. This holiday break and the 2022 Christmas season is a bummer . I'm not sure if its because I'm getting older or if its because everyone is excited to have face to face parties and reunions again. I got sick in the middle of the month (I always seem to get sick each time a semester ends) and missed out on a lot of events. I'm not as excited about the new year as I was used to. I'm now thinking that the human race needs these holidays and arbitrary demarcations of time because otherwise, everyday would be the same.  I feel like everyone and everything is so rushed - for holiday shopping, to get to the next get-together or party, whatever. Blogging, content creation in 2022 I don't ac...

It was held two days after the Ilonggo hero’s 166th birth anniversary celebration. The Iloilo City Public Library (ICPL), formerly located in the Iloilo City Hall, is also located in the shrine. The shrine started its construction in 2020 and was opened to the public last year. Graciano Lopez Jaena, recognized as one of the national heroes of the Philippines, was a Filipino journalist, orator, and reformist. He is most known as the editor of La Solidaridad, the propaganda newspaper. He was born in Jaro, Iloilo City on December 18, 1856 and died of tuberculosis in Barcelona, Spain on January 20, 1896. Every year, Iloilo City celebrates December 18 as a holiday to commemorate the hero's birth. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas on the Graciano Lopez Jaena Learning Center and Museum Mayor Jerry P. Treñas led the wreath-laying ceremony in honor of...
