National Museum Western Visayas Regional Museum opened its newest permanent exhibit on Geology and Paleontology in the region last January 25, 2020, just in time for Dinagyang. The museum opened in 2018 and I last visited the place in February last year. You can read my blog entry on the first gallery they opened, "Habol Panay: the Woven Artistry of Western Visayas": Visiting the new National Museum Western Visayas in Iloilo City . During my last visit, the park in front of the museum was still under construction. PLAI National Congress 2020 to be held in Iloilo City

Image
The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI), will be holding their annual National Congress for the year 2020 in Iloilo City on November 24-27, 2020, according to a post [link] in the official PLAI Facebook page. The theme and venue are not yet announced. The PLAI National Congress is no doubt the biggest gathering for librarians in the Philippines every year. Librarians, especially new professionals, should not miss this event. You can meet and network with other librarians from all over the country. It is also a good opportunity to learn about the latest trends and topics in the profession.  As a librarian here in Iloilo City, it's good that the National Congress will be held here. Attending a conference is quite expensive when it's in another place so this is convenient for librarians here in Panay and nearby places like Negros Island. The last PLAI National Congress held in Iloilo City was in November 2013, in Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City....

How to start reviewing for the board exam

Image
The schedule for the 2021 Licensure Examinations is now available from the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) website. Since this blog is about librarianship, I check the schedule from time to time to see if the latest one is up. This year's Librarian Licensure Exam will be on September 8-9, 2021. Even if it's still January, preparation should start as early as now for those who will take the exam. Preparation for the board does not only involve studying. There are requirements that take time to process, such as transcripts of records, certificates, and other documents. Make sure to take care of these things as soon as you can so you have more time for actual reviewing, not running after offices for your papers. A follower of the Facebook page messaged me and asked, how does one start in reviewing for the board exam? The question actually made a lot of sense. When you just graduated and there's already pressure for you to pass the board, you may feel confu...

2019: a year in review

Image
From my trip to Singapore last April 2019 was a year of changes and endings. I finished my thesis for my graduate degree and finally graduated my Master's in Library and Information Science. I started my Master's in June 2016. I completed it in three years. Though I admit I feel nothing about it and at the time of graduation I just wanted it to be over! The thesis was the most challenging part of it but I learned a lot about research from it. Next year, I hope to start my own research projects. My contract for my last library job ended. I worked for one year in SEAFDEC AQD Library and Data Bank and I am glad to have worked in one of the best libraries here. My job was digitizing books which is a new thing that I never studied in library school. The contract was only for a year, and though I learned a lot it's time to move on. I managed to lose weight and started a healthier lifestyle. I have always struggled with my weight and one of my new year's resolutions...

Deco's La Paz Batchoy Valeria unveils new look

Image
Photo credit: Deco's La Paz Facebook page When one thinks of Iloilo City and food, one immediately thinks of the famous batchoy. When I think of batchoy I think of home - noodles in bone broth with meats and drizzled with crunchy chicharon , best served with steaming puto or pandesal. Batchoy is truly the Ilonggo's classic comfort food. Deco's La Paz Batchoy is one of the first batchoy restaurants in Iloilo City and has been nicknamed "The Father of All Batchoys". They recently re-opened their Valeria branch last December 18 with a new design - where customers can see how the batchoy is prepared before serving. It resembles the set-up of a Japanese ramen house but with an Ilonggo twist. They also have an Instagrammable wall with art depicting Ilonggo culture, perfect for picture-taking for both tourists and locals. This is their second branch which features this unique design, the first was in Deco's Robinsons Place Jaro branch. Since Iloilo City i...
