Retired faculty members donate library materials to UP Visayas University Library

Two retired faculty members donated library materials to UP Visayas University Library.   In memory of the late Prof. Pepito M. Fernandez, his family donated a total of two hundred forty reading materials (books, magazines, journals, newsletters, etc.). Meanwhile, three hundred fifty-three were donated by Dr. Jose P. Peralta. Prof. Pepito M. Fernandez served the University for thirty-five years as an academician. He was a well-loved teacher and respected by his colleagues. In addition, he had a flair for administrative leadership. And to name a few, he has served as Secretary of the College of Fisheries, Chairperson of the Department of Inland Fisheries of College of Fisheries when it was still in Diliman, and Dean of the College (now named College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences). But most importantly, Prof. Fernandez was the pioneer Vice Chancellor for Administration of UP Visayas from 1987 to 1989 when the Miagao campus opened. Coca-Cola's Tapon to Ipon program encourages collection and recycling of plastic bottles during fiestas

(CCBPI)—the bottling arm of the company in the country—activated Tapon to Ipon: Basta Klaro, Panalo! pop-up booths in Cebu and Iloilo and collected over 400 kg of post-consumer clear PET plastic bottles, toward helping hold waste-free festival celebrations. I was hacked in January 27, 2023 and after a long and tedious process, recovered my Facebook account nine days later Why was my Facebook account hacked? There are a few reasons why I think my account was compromised Having experienced it, being hacked is a frustrating and emotionally draining ordeal The steps I took to ensure my account security after successfully recovering my Facebook account and suggestions for others who are going through the same January 27, 2023, Friday, around 8 AM - I was just browsing the internet at work and looking at my phone from time to time. Like most people who own a smartphone, opening your screen during idle moments is already an ingrained habit. Justice Ramon Avanceña Library, District Library in Arevalo, Iloilo City soon to open

Source: Mayor Jerry Treñas In a Facebook post, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announces that the Justice Ramon Avanceña Library in Arevalo, Iloilo City has started construction in November 9, 2022. According to Mayor Treñas, the planned library "will be a hub for our students along the district to study and use learning materials for free." The city government has planned to establish a library for every district of Iloilo City. This is the first district library to start construction. (Read:  City gov’t plans to establish public library per district ) For the meantime, the district library is temporarily located at Sta. Filomena, Arevalo. The library is open to the public and is active in the community, with an ongoing storytelling program for children . Computerized IELTS testing center opens in Iloilo City

UP Visayas Library to launch Institutional repository, conducts training-workshop

The University of the Philippines in the Visayas Library is set to launch an Institutional Repository. In line with this goal, the Library conducted a three-day training-workshop for library staff on January 3-5, 2023. Four trainers from SEAFDEC-AQD, Central Philippine University, and West Visayas State University conducted the training workshop. The activity proceeded after the approval of Chancellor Clement C. Camposano. The Data and Information Services Program (DISP), co-proponent of this project, assisted in the maintenance of the server. Dr. Philip Ian P. Padilla, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, delivered a message during the opening program. 5 Ways to be a Better Librarian this year

"New year, new me!" is often the mantra once another new year starts. People resolve to make resolutions to better themselves (usually related to weight loss). A new year is a great opportunity to assess yourself, where you have been the past year and what you can do to make the most of the next. Optimism abounds when a year begins. Aside from personal resolutions, we can also try to be better professionals and librarians. Here are my own new year's resolutions as a librarian. 1. Be Proactive. The common librarian stereotype for those who are not familiar with library work is the strict librarian who "does nothing" in the library. Because of this, I think librarians should go the extra mile in providing services to debunk the damaging image. Sometimes stereotypes can be difficult to change, and their wrong notion about libraries may deter them from getting to know the library.
