1st PLAI Online Congress to be held on November 24-27, 2020

The Philippine Librarians Assocation, Inc. (PLAI) just recently announced that it will be having the first online national congress on November 24-27, 2020 (Tuesday to Friday). The theme of this year's conference is “Libraries as Catalysts in the New Normal Environment: Changes. Reforms. Transformation.” According to PLAI, this event is FREE.

Due to the global pandemic brought by COVID 19 that has disrupted normal operations, the holding of the Annual National Congress of the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Libraries and Information Services (NCLIS), and the National Library of the Philippines on 24-27 November 2020 at the Iloilo  Convention Center, Iloilo City, Iloilo has been cancelled.

Since the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) is committed to its mission of building, nurturing and promoting all libraries in the country, and fostering professional growth and performance of its members, we believe that libraries as well as librarians and information professionals should be catalysts of reforms, changes and transformations in the New Normal Environment amidst pandemic situations. In response to the challenges brought about by this pandemic, the PLAI will be holding its first ever online congress on November 24-27, 2020, with the theme “LIBRARIES AS CATALYSTS IN THE NEW NORMAL ENVIRONMENT: CHANGES. REFORMS. TRANSFORMATION”.  Further, the objectives of the congress are as follows:

• explore the roles of libraries and librarians as social catalyst and leaders of reforms, changes and transformations for the new normal environment.
• re-examine, re-think and re-interpret the role of libraries and competencies needed of librarians as promoters of change in the new normal environment.
• identify partnerships, collaborations and communities to strengthen the potentials of librarians and libraries as social institutions proactively involved in the social aspect of the new normal environment.
• understand societal change and be advocates, why and how librarians and libraries should manage change as their professional duty.
• showcase best practices on innovations, changes, reforms and transformations among libraries and librarians to adapt the new normal environment

PLAI will employ both asynchronous and synchronous modes of  delivery for our Annual Congress this year.
