Victorias City in Negros Occidental, Philippines, marked a major milestone in its commitment to accessible education with the official reopening and blessing of the newly renovated Victorias City Public Library on August 6.
Funding for the comprehensive modernization project was secured through the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) 2024 Incentive Fund. The upgrade transformed the aging facility into a modern, highly conducive learning space featuring upgraded physical infrastructure, updated learning materials, and modern equipment designed to provide efficient services to students, educators, and local researchers.
Vice Mayor Derek Palanca, representing Mayor Abelardo Bantug III, welcomed guests and noted that investing in public libraries directly reflects the city's commitment to future generations.
Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javier Miguel Benitez delivered an inspirational message emphasizing that libraries remain beacons of hope and knowledge despite modern educational challenges.
The event featured the formal signing of the Certificate of Turnover and Acceptance between Vice Mayor Palanca and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Negros Island Region Cluster 2 Head Maria Nove Mejica.
OIC City Librarian Mary Ann Lazo expressed deep gratitude to the local government and partner agencies, highlighting the library’s dramatic shift from an outdated building into an inclusive hub for lifelong learning.
The ceremony was well-attended by regional leaders and stakeholders, including Provincial Board Member Richard Julius Sablan, City Councilors Betol Undar and Jappy Cuaycong, DILG regional officials, and members of the Association of Public Information Specialists of Negros Occidental.
With this revamped facility, the City Government of Victorias continues to solidify its dedication to quality, inclusive, and accessible education for all Victoriasanons.
