The National Library of the Philippines (NLP) is thrilled to announce the triumphant reopening of its enhanced Children’s Library (CL)! This vibrant, long-awaited space is now ready to welcome young readers with colorful interiors, exciting new collections, and creative learning areas, all designed to nurture a lifelong love for reading, learning, and imagination in Filipino children.
The reopening of the Children’s Library, after years of planning and a comprehensive organizational and physical overhaul, marks a significant milestone in NLP's mission to promote literacy and cultural unity. The launching, held on November 7, 2025, was graced by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, along with distinguished guests, dedicated literacy advocates, children's book authors, and students from the Philippine Normal University and Malate Catholic School.
NLP Director Cesar Gilbert Q. Adriano expressed his sincere gratitude to the Senate for funding the project's completion. The Children's Library project began in 2023, following a nearly decade-long suspension of onsite children’s services due to the retrofitting and adaptive reuse of the NLP Building. Director Adriano acknowledged the crucial support from the Office of Senator Pia Cayetano and Senator Loren Legarda, emphasizing that the reopening stands as a testament to NLP’s enduring dedication to the youth.
A special appreciation was also given to Architect Maila Manalang-Moreno, whose creative vision transformed the space into a dynamic, child-friendly environment where every corner is designed to spark curiosity and bring stories to life.

The reopening also celebrates the resilience of the Kuwentistas or Storytellers of the Reference Division. This dedicated group sustained NLP’s children’s services, keeping the spirit of the Children’s Library alive even when it lacked a permanent home. Despite the challenges, the Kuwentistas continued to share the joy of reading, holding storytelling sessions in diverse venues, from the Luneta grounds to schools, hospitals, and community centers.
Now, both the Kuwentistas and their young audience finally have a bright, welcoming space to call their own, a library where storytelling and learning will thrive.
