Two Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) students from the University of the Philippines School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors: Stephen Jorel Sikat Torres and Marzo Meco Bagayaua Alfonso.

They are the first BLIS students to graduate Summa cum Laude in UP's history.

Aside from the two graduates who got the highest Latin honors, this batch of UPSLIS graduates also boasts of three Magna cum Laude graduates and three Cum Laude graduates.

These graduates belong to the SLIS' isibû Class of 2022. "Isibû" is a Hiligaynon word for 'adjust', "an apt theme for a class that has coped, responded, and prevailed over the many uncertainties of a pandemic that has eclipsed the majority of their time in UP."

The graduation ceremony will be on July 31, 2022 and the SLIS Recognition rites will be on August 6, 2022.

I'm expecting these names to be on the top 10 in the board exams for 2022! UPSLIS has been consistent in having 100% passers for many years and having their graduates in the top 10 of the Librarians Licensure Examination.

I hope this inspires more Library and Information Science students to do well in their studies. BLIS is still not a very popular course, and having many students graduate with Latin honors show that future librarians can also excel.
