Join ZineZoned 20/20: Iloilo Zine Fest

This year's Iloilo Mega Book Fair and Zinefest will go online. I have been a participant in this event last 2017 and 2018. You can read about it in the following posts: #ZineZoned3: Iloilo Zinefest 2017 experience and At the 1st Iloilo Mega Book Fair and #ZineZoned5 (2018).

This year's IMBF and Zinefest will be held on November 12-15, 2020.

This year's theme is A City Built on Books,  "highlights literature in the time of pandemic and in all aspects including children’s rights, teachers and librarian education, history, heritage, local films, comics, food culture, environment, and artists’ rights."

For those who are not aware, "A zine (/ˈziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is most commonly a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images. Usually, zines are the product of a single person, or of a small group.  A zine is a cheaply-made, cheaply-priced publication, often in black and white, which is mass-produced via photocopier and bound with staples.

Most zines revolve around a music scene of some sort, but others are dedicated to artwork, poetry, cartoons, editorials, and short stories. Because zines do not have any sort of corporate backing, they are very rugged, individualized, and much more charismatic than larger, more popular magazines whose content is often dictated by their advertisers. (Definition from urbandictionary.com)"

Here are the mechanics for those who want to join the Zinefest (source is Iloilo Mega Book Fair 2020 on Facebook):

Here is the lowdown on the lockdown edition of the biggest gathering of independent creators of art and literature, ZineZoned 20/20: Iloilo Zine Fest.

Time to start collecting your literary (poetry, flash fic, short story, play, hugot lines, even tweets or FB rants!) and artistic pieces! Put them together in one creative format. Make a zine and have your works seen during this year’s Iloilo Mega Book Fair (IMBF) 2020.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Please fill out this Google form to register.

Alternatively, you may also email the following to kasingkasingpress@gmail.com on or before October 1, 2020:
a. a high-res photo of your zine cover
b. a high-res photo of yourself (for the zine fest’s promotional materials)
c. a short (< 100 words) bio-note that includes your academic/professional/writing background.

2. Print out copies of your zine and submit twelve (12) copies to PalabasaLibro at The Grid, Mandurriao, Iloilo City on or before October 15, 2020. Two (2) of these copies will be part of the organizers’ archive, while the rest will be sold at PalabasaLibro and a special live-selling event that will be organized by the IMBF.

3. There will be NO REGISTRATION FEE for ZineZoned 20/20, but 20% of zine sales will go to PalabasaLibro as our way of thanking them for the space they have provided for us.

4. Invite your friends to LIKE and SHARE the IMBF Facebook Page, and start spreading the news that you will be joining us as a ziner this year!

We have exciting events prepared for ZineZoned20/20 ziners and we are really looking forward to making this extraordinary festival fun for everyone.

See you this November!
