Moro Memoirs digital heritage platform launched

Moro Memoirs, a new digital resource dedicated to documenting, mapping, and preserving the stories, cultural landscapes, and lived memories of the Muslim people in the Philippines launched this May 18, 2026.

Founded by researcher and cultural advocate Barjunaid T. Cadir, Moro Memoirs emerges as a vital response to the historical erasure and underrepresentation of Bangsamoro narratives in mainstream Philippine history. The platform serves as a "living archive," blending academic research with community-driven oral histories to ensure that the identity, resistance, and faith of the Moro people are safeguarded for future generations.

The platform was officially launched along with the first episode of their webinar series, which featured a talk with Prof. Darwin Absari of the University of the Philippines Institute of Islamic Studies.

The Philippine Educational Research Organization (PHEDRO) was also launched, which serves as the research and archive organization behind the platform.

Commissioner Naida Akkalan of the Bangsamoro Commission on the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) - Basilan has expressed support for the initiative, citing it as "a meaningful platform dedicated to documenting and preserving the rich cultural heritage, historical narratives, and lived experiences of the Bangsamoro people."

Moro Memoirs also invites contributions. Visit their website to learn more: https://moromemoirs.com
