Soon to rise! Public Library in La Paz district, Iloilo City: Justice Delfin Jaranilla Learning Center

Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City recently shared plans to build a District Library in La Paz, Iloilo City, the Delfin J. Jaranilla Learning Center.

According to Treñas, the planned library is "A hub to promote learning development and camaraderie is soon to rise in La Paz Plaza. This is one of the projects we envision to promote the welfare of our people. The Delfin Jaranilla Learning Center will house the district library, La Paz ABC, and youth center as part of our continuous program for a progressive metropolis."

The library would be named after Justice Delfin Jaranilla (1883-1980), who was from Lapaz, Iloilo. He was known for representing the Philippines in the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. 

He served as the Attorney General of the Philippines from 1927 to 1932, as part of the American colonial Insular Government. He was named Judge Advocate General and after the Japanese conquest of the Philippines was forced on the Bataan Death March. He served as Secretary of Justice, Agriculture, and Commerce in 1945. After holding the position of Secretary of Justice, he was appointed the 44th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Source
