5th Iloilo Mega Book Fair (IMBF) 2022 on April 28-30

This April 28-30, 2022 will be the 5th Iloilo Mega Book Fair in Festive Walk Iloilo. The theme of this year's Book Fair is "Libro para sa tanan" ("Books are for all"). 

The Iloilo Mega Book Fair (IMBF) is considered to be one of the most successful book and literary initiatives in the country. It serves as a place for a lot of writers from all over the region to showcase their skill and the prowess in creating literary pieces, particularly those in Akeanon, Hiligaynon, and Kinaray-a. The event is sponsored by Book Latté, Hubon Manunulat: West Visayan Writers, and Kasingkasing Press, Festive Walk Mall Iloilo and the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art.

    “Alandal” Komiks Reading by J. Philip Ignacio

    Listen to a piece of comics history with the historical; fiction comics, "Alandal" written by Jay Ignacio and illustrated by comics master Alex Niño. Set in Islas Filipinas, 1774—Sabina, the twelve-year-old daughter of a Spanish conquistador in exile, gets abducted by Iranun pirates and taken to the island of Jolo. Once there, Sabina discovers her true identity as the granddaughter of the Sultan of Sulu. There, she meets a mysterious swordsman named Alandal. “Alandal” is an Official Selection of the 1st Philippine International Comics Festival, and the last work of Alex Niñ o who is currently retired. 

    Jay is a fiction writer, and director is a prolific writer, documentarist, and a singer and musician for the band DaPulis. His first comic book “Alandal” is the result of a collaborative effort with legendary comics veteran and Eisner Hall of Fame Nominee, Alex Niñ o. “Alandal” is an Official Selection of the 1st Philippine International Comics Festival. 

    Comic Book Writing 101: Purpose-Driven Storytelling by Paolo Alessandro Herras

    Whether you’re an artist, filmmaker, animator or aspiring comics creator—learn to tell a story visually. And it all begins with the driving force behind every action-driven story—the purpose-driven message. This is a storytelling workshop for professionals, students, and even non-writers—everyone is welcome.

    Paolo is an Independent Filmmaker, an award-winning Advertising Creative Director, Comic Book Author and Co-Founder of KOMIKET, the Filipino Komiks and Art Market, the biggest local comics event in the country. He is the Lead Lecturer of the Comic Book Creator’s Workshop, and his work “Strange Natives” is a 2017 National Book Award Finalist.
