Heads up, Twilight fans! Stephenie Meyer is releasing Midnight Sun

Last week, bestselling author Stephenie Meyer drove Twilight fans into a frenzy of speculation due to a cryptic countdown on her website. The wait is over and she revealed a new book to be released on August 4, 2020: Midnight Sun. It will be published by Hachette Book Group and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

Many fans have already speculated that she will finally release the book that she said she was writing twelve years ago. Due to an early draft getting leaked, Meyer canceled the project. Midnight Sun is the story of Twilight told from Edward's perspective. In the original book series, it is written from the first-person perspective of Bella Swan, the human girl who will fall in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire.



In an interview with Good Morning America, the author said that "I am very excited to finally, finally announce the release of ‘Midnight Sun’ on August 4. It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long. It didn’t seem fair to make you wait anymore. Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully, this book can be a distraction from the real world. I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with you."

"I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and if it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while. I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun," she added. (Source)

Meyer also has posted an earlier draft of the novel on her website. Meyer also said that this book is a 'darker, more desperate' take on the original story.

The release plans were made before the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. On this, Meyer stated that "There’s so much going on that’s negative and bad, and I can’t really do much about most of that. But if I can give people something to be excited about, something to think about that’s not bad, then that’s a win." (Source)

I think she is succeeding. As of May 4, 10:30 PM, 'Midnight Sun' is now a trending topic on Twitter with fans pretty excited for the release. Twilight Renaissance is definitely coming. Meanwhile, I'll be reading the Twilight series while we wait.
